Jessica Hadley grew up outside of Washington, D.C. She was introduced to art and books at an early age and can't remember not knowing how to read.
She loves animals and has pursued that passion throughout her life. She was a zookeeper at the National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C., and she also worked at the Philadelphia Zoo as the Animal Records Assistant and as a Curator's Assistant. She has a B.A. in biology from Cornell University and an M.S. in Zoology from the University of Maryland – College Park.
Currently she has her own zoo of sorts at home — a teenaged son, a very patient husband, an assortment of tropical fish, a chatty parakeet, and a couple of friendly snakes. Deer, foxes, raccoons and woodpeckers live in her backyard.
She enjoys visiting classrooms to talk to children about animals. When her own children were younger, she was known at their school as the person who brings in snakes, and the kids all knew the surprise ending to her most popular zoo story.
She writes and draws and still loves to curl up with a good book — or two or three or ten. She volunteers at her local children's library and wonders if there is a limit to the number of books that can be checked out at one time.
She wishes that there were more hours in a day and that her office were in a tree house.
